Why didn't my child earn a reward?

If a finished chore did not add to a balance, check these in order.

Earn Rewards is turned off

Only members with Earn Rewards on earn anything, and their balance shows as zero while it is off. You may see "Earn Rewards is off for this profile" on their rewards screen, or "No one will earn this reward" when editing the chore.

  1. Tap the message, or go to Settings > My Homes, tap your home, then tap the menu next to the person and Edit.
  2. Turn on Earn Rewards and save.

The chore has no reward

Edit the chore and check the Reward Amount (allowance homes) or Points (points homes). If you recently changed the Reward Type, chores need a reward set in the new type. If the Reward Type is None, chores do not earn rewards. See How to choose allowance or points.

The chore is not fully done

The reward is added only when every task is checked off. If the chore needs a photo, the photo must be added too. If a task was unchecked or flagged as incomplete, the reward is taken back. If a required photo was removed, the reward is taken back until a photo is added again. On a past day, a chore that wasn't finished shows "Not earned: ...".

The reward is weekly

With a Weekly Reward Accrual, the amount you entered is for the whole week. It is spread over the times the chore is due that week, so one day of a daily chore earns a seventh of it. In an allowance home, these entries in Recent Activity show "of ... weekly". Weekly is only offered for Daily and Weekly schedules. Other chores earn their reward on each completion.

The reward was changed after the chore was done

A chore's reward is set when the chore is first finished. If you changed the reward later, chores finished before the change keep the old amount, even if a task is checked off again. The new reward counts the next times the chore is finished.

Someone else got the reward

  • Make sure the right person is selected at the top of the Home tab before checking off tasks.
  • On an Individual chore, the reward goes to the person whose copy of the chore it is.
  • On a Shared chore, the reward goes to whoever checked off the tasks, split by how many tasks each person checked off.
  • On a rotating chore, the reward goes to the person whose turn it was, even if a Household Manager checked it off for them.

It was already paid out

Settling a balance sets it back to zero. Payouts show in Recent Activity as Paid out. On the person's rewards screen, tap the balance card to see the Settlement History. If it was paid out by mistake, a Household Manager can tap the three dots on the payout and tap Undo.
